We are posting today with an important update and urgent request.
As you know, we have been fighting in Annapolis for collective bargaining legislation for all faculty and librarians in Maryland higher ed institutions for the last three years. It has been a tough fight, but we may be on the cusp of a major breakthrough.
We have good reason to believe after conversations with some of the most important legislators this week in Annapolis that there are active negotiations happening over the fate and shape of our bill, HB661/SB750.
The situation is rapidly evolving and complex. The short version is that it seems likely that some version of our bill will pass, but some legislators are trying to cut down the amount of faculty that this bill would grant collective bargaining rights to, from all faculty to some smaller subset.
We must push as hard as we can now to make sure this doesn’t happen.
Please take 5 minutes right now and do two quick action items:
Click here to email the governor and legislators we need to pressure.
Call the key legislator we need to move, Senate President Bill Ferguson at (410) 841-3600. (Use the same script provided at the email link here for the phone call too.)
When you click on the links above, you will be provided a script for the message we want you to deliver via email and phone. But please also feel free to add personal details and stories to both your email and phone conversations/messages.
